Is his name really Miracle?

YES!

When Miracle’s mother, Alberta, was pregnant with him and his twin brother Seth, she was told that she was told she was only having one baby. Her doctors warned her it would be a complicated pregnancy. His mom didn’t have healthcare at the time, and Miracle’s father was struggling with addiction. The doctors she did manage to see prepared her for the worst: an unhealthy baby, high blood pressure, a dangerous birth weight, and the possibility of serious complications. She leaned on her Church community and prayed every day for nine long months. When it came time to give birth, her family gathered around her at Illinois Masonic Hospital. After a difficult labor, she delivered a big, healthy baby boy: Seth Jenkins.

As Alberta tells the story, the doctors moved on, and everybody was celebrating. She was laying in bed with her newborn baby for a full 25 minutes, before she realized she was not done giving birth just yet. The doctors rushed back in, and Miracle was born quickly. Alberta had no prenatal care, no idea she was carrying twins, and no margin for error. Her survival, and the survival of both her sons, was nothing short of extraordinary. The ugly truth is that far too many Black mothers in America do not make it through labor. Black women are significantly more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than white women. This is often due to systemic failures in access, treatment, and respect. Alberta’s story could have ended in tragedy. Instead, it gave us Seth, and it gave us Miracle.

Now, Miracle is running for Congress to fight for a country where no mother’s survival is left up to chance. A future where healthcare is a human right. Where no one is turned away because they can’t afford treatment. Where families can thrive, not just survive. That’s what our Universal New Deal is all about: building a world where everyone has what they need to live with dignity, starting with safe, equitable, and accessible care for all.
